Reigning Champions Olympiacos Piraeus: the toughest test for Valencia Basket’s Strong EuroLeague Start
EuroLeague round 5

Valencia Basket men’s team will look to rewrite its EuroLeague history with its toughest challenge yet as it aims to set a new best-ever start to a season by hosting reigning champions Olympiacos Piraeus (Tuesday 13, 9:00 p.m., Roig Arena, #Vamos) in a Round 5 matchup of Europe’s premier club competition.
After matching the 4-0 start achieved in its first-ever EuroLeague campaign last week, Xavi Albert’s men will try to surpass that mark in what will be the first of three home games the taronja side will play this week.
Standing in their way is the only opponent Valencia Basket has faced in every one of its EuroLeague seasons and the first team to reach ten visits in European competition. Olympiacos Piraeus arrives with the first member of last season’s championship-winning squad to return to Roig Arena, Dominican guard Jean Montero.
The historical record heavily favors the Greek side, with Valencia Basket having lost eight of the previous nine meetings. However, last season the taronja team finally broke its own curse against the Reds by earning its first home victory over Olympiacos.
The matchup features the competition’s two most productive offenses and the two highest-rated teams so far this season, with contrasting styles that have proven equally effective through the opening rounds.
Valencia Basket will have its full roster available for the game.
Valencia Basket currently sits second in the EuroLeague standings with a perfect 4-0 record.
